Is Maybelline Cruelty Free in 2022?

by Nandini S 06 Jan 2022

One of the most common questions I get from my  readers is: "Is Maybelline cruelty free?" This post will break down exactly what it means for a brand to be cruelty free, and how you can use that information when deciding which brands to support and use.

Is Maybelline cruelty free?  This is an important question to ask any brand you use or want to start using.

This article will shed light on these FAQs

Is Maybelline cruelty free?
How can I check if Maybelline is cruelty free?
How can I find better alternatives?
Does Maybelline test on animals 2022?
Is Maybelline Vegan?

Maybelline, is not only a popular makeup brand globally but has always had film stars and top models as their brand ambassadors. When it comes to being cruelty free, they are not that fabulous!

With zoobop checking a brand to see if it is cruelty free is super easy. Zoobop.com is the world’s first brand checker that allows you to check your favorite brands to see if it’s clean, green and cruelty-free.

It gives you a clean or dirty score on 0-5. The higher the score, the cleaner the brand is along with its ethical footprint. All you need to do is enter your brand’s name and BOP!

Here’s a quick link to what I found on Maybelline. This is what the brand says on their website:

L’Oréal no longer tests any of its products or any of its ingredients on animals, anywhere in the world nor does L’Oréal delegate this task to others. An exception could only be made if regulatory authorities demanded it for safety or regulatory purposes.”

The part where a brand talks about testing ‘when required by law’, simply means that they test on animals where a country demands it. Which translates to them not being cruelty free. You are either ethical as a brand , or you choose profit over ethics. Maybelline is a brand owned by L’Oréal and clearly, by allowing third party testing on their products (which they pay for) they are choosing to not be cruelty free.
How to determine if a brand is testing on animals.
"What can I do to help make the world a better place?" This question starts with knowing if your favorite brand is cruelty free. WOULD YOU REALLY WANT AN ANIMAL TO SUFFER FOR YOUR VANITY? We did a little research into this topic and wanted to share. How do we check if a brand is cruelty free? Is it easy or difficult? It's not that simple…

1.BOP IT!
Zoobop has data of over 3000 cosmetic brands worldwide, and it gives you more than just a simple yes or no when it comes to whether or not the brand is cruelty-free. It also checks if they test on animals or even if they have vague testing policies or our inadvertently using accredited logos .

2.Look out for certifications
To validate a cruelty free brand, look for certification marks such as PETA, Leaping Bunny, and Choose Cruelty Free. These certifications are expensive so not many brands can afford them.  However, like any good accreditors, many of these too validate a brand’s strong commitment to being CF. Many brands use false claims and logos that aren't valid. That's why it's necessary to ask an accreditor to see if their logo is qualified.

  • 3.The essential CF check
If your brand goes against any of these rules, you should think it over before continuing.
The brand does not test on animals.
The supplier does not test on animals.
No party involved with the brand is also involved with testing on animals.
No testing even when the law in some cases demands them to.
They should not be selling in Mainland China where it is mandatory to test products on animals before selling in the market.
Zoobop's mission is to bring truth to the personal care/cosmetic world. The platform gives you all the information to make better kinder choices. And with the free to use bop tool you can check any brand and see better ethical alternatives in your budget and and location.

The clean marketplace sells and promotes only clean and sustainable brands which score from good to excellent and these have been vetted for you. Switching to clean has never been easier.
Is Maybelline an ethical company?

No. Any brand that chooses to test on animals for profit is not ethical. Besides, Maybelline has a ton of other red flags. It is not eco safe and uses possible toxic ingredients as well.
